ABOUT

I am a sustainability professional specialising in urban mobility and cities.

I have lived and worked in Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland and England, working across issues including urban mobility, cleantech, and corporate environmental management.

My interests lie in understanding and exploring how urban mobility and placemaking can create cities which have people at their heart, are environmentally sustainable, and are economically successful. I have worked with public and private organisations, and NGOs, in exploring these issues.

I live in London working as a Consultant on urban mobility.

WORK

A selection of my freelance research and project-based work.

Investigating how to make city centres work better for everyone

I undertook research on business opposition to car-free city centres, using Oslo as a case study. I interviewed business and municipality stakeholders to understand the causes of opposition to car-free projects, presenting recommendations for cities implementing car-free city centres.

Understanding the cleantech ecosystem in developing countries

I worked with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation to develop a framework for assessing the ecosystem for cleantech development in developing countries. Results were taken forward to inform future work on UNIDO's Global Cleantech Innovation Programme.

Lessons for active travel from COVID-19

Based on the experiences in cities across Europe during COVID-19, I researched and wrote a report setting out the lessons to be learned for Scottish cities from lockdown. Recommendations were made on how to create safer, more accessible, more enjoyable urban spaces.

Helping businesses cut plastic use

I ran a project in my home county of Perthshire helping catering businesses reduce their use of single-use plastics. I worked with ten businesses, gained local and national political support and engaged the local community to take action.
